Fears That Drive Relationship Reactions
What’s Your Greatest Relationship Dread?
Do you realize that dread drives many reactions in relationships? There is the dread of commitment, the dread of being alone, the dread that he/she will be mad at me, the dread of abandonment and loneliness. How many times have you reacted to your spouse in a way that wasn’t automatically what you wanted to say or do, but you did or said it since you didn’t want to upset them or cause a fight?
I bet the answer to that question a lot! Many times you will genuinely wish to avoid a fight so you do whatever you can to avoid that fight. Why do you do that? Dread. Relationship fears can paralyze us and keep us from growing in a relationship. The extraordinary thing is that if you do that enough, you will in most likely end up with the thing you were most worried of…Being alone or lonely since you didn’t speak up and deal the problem.
First reactions to problems are either “fight” or “flight”. The underground of people will fight, most people will just walk away since they don’t wish to deal with it. There are times when on foot away will be the best deal with at the moment, but you need to come back and calmly discuss the issue. If you do not, it will fester and turn into rage. The resentments grow and you end up with your chief dread, but by then, it won’t be such a dread since you will be tired of the frustration and rage and glad for the separation.
Don’t let this happen to you. Discuss. Discuss. Discuss….Men, you may not like that, but you must make yourself talk about it. You may even be so worried of being alone that you will place up with unhealthy actions from your spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend. You should trust yourself more. Do you really want to live your life full of craziness just since you can’t seem to let him or her go? Really? I know exactly how you feel. I have been there. I was so in like with my spouse that I place up with so much. I finally set my dread aside and stanch that 6 months of pain and loneliness and absolute hell would be much better than a time of it. You know what? I was right. Now and again you have to overcome your fears to have the best life ever.
